Gouverneur, NY – Kinney Drugs, a leading pharmacy chain in New York and Vermont, announces the “Favorite” Pharmacist and Employee for 2024. Each September, in preparation for October’s celebrations of American Pharmacist Month and National Employee Ownership Month, Kinney Drugs invites patients and customers to vote for their Favorite Employee and Favorite Pharmacist. The votes were tallied in October, and the surprise award presentations took place in November. Kinney Drugs congratulates Maxwell Osmen, PharmD, R.Ph., Supervising Pharmacist of Store #66 in Lyons, NY, and Carol Shannon, Pharmacy Technician in Store #132 in Montpelier, VT, on being named Favorite Pharmacist and Favorite Employee of 2024.
Kinney Drugs President John Marraffa, R.Ph., said, “It was such a privilege to be part of these wonderful celebrations honoring these two outstanding people. I am so proud to have Max and Carol as part of our team. It is loyal and hard-working employees like them who are the heart and soul of Kinney Drugs.”
Max grew up in Newark, NY where his first job was making donuts in his uncle’s donut shops. Although medical school was his initial plan, he changed his mind when he toured St. John Fisher University in Rochester, NY. Max was impressed when the Dean of the School of Pharmacy said that pharmacists are the health professionals who are most readily accessible to people. After receiving his Doctor of Pharmacy from Fisher in 2015, Max started his career as a pharmacist with another large regional chain. In March 2019, he joined Kinney Drugs as Supervising Lyons, NY pharmacy, the position he holds today. Pharmacist the pharmacist is interacting with the public. So, I was thrilled when our leadership team surprised me with this award. It’s both Max said, “My favorite part of being a humbling and deeply gratifying, because I feel like I must be doing something right if my patients voted for me! I want to thank my staff, as this is a team effort, and I couldn’t do it without them! I’d also like to say that my experience with Kinney Drugs has been extremely satisfying. Kinney’s culture is very relationship centric, and we all feel appreciated. I am very happy to be part of such a wonderful company.”
Max resides in Newark, NY with daughters Isabella (age 15), and Leyla (age 17). (Max noted that his grandma was especially excited when she heard the news!) In Max’s honor, Kinney Drugs will donate $1,000 to the charity of his choice.

A lifelong resident of Montpelier, Carol has worked in pharmacies for more than 20 years including Brooks Drugs and Rite Aid. She had been employed by both Montpelier Pharmacy and Waterbury Pharmacy for about eight years when they were acquired by Kinney Drugs in 2017.
