Carthage, NY – [Sept, 24th, 2024] – The North Star Health Alliance (NSHA) and Carthage Area Hospital (CAH) are excited to announce that Dr. Timi Akins, a board-certified nephrologist, is now seeing patients in Carthage and at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg, NY. He is currently accepting new patient referrals at both locations, bringing specialized kidney care services to Jefferson, St. Lawrence, and Lewis Counties.

Dr. Akins is a highly skilled nephrologist who earned his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, DC. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Clinical Nephrology at Georgetown University Hospital/Washington Hospital Center. “We are thrilled to have Dr. Akins join our medical team,” said Rich Duvall, President and CEO of North Star Health Alliance, Carthage Area Hospital, and Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center. “His expertise in nephrology and patient-centered approach to care will bring much-needed services to Jefferson County, ensuring our patients have access to high-quality kidney care close to home.”

Dr. Akins’ practice philosophy is rooted in preventive care and patient education. He believes in empowering his patients through knowledge and a strong partnership. Inspired by the words of Thomas Edison, Dr. Akins shared, “The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will instruct his patient in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease. My practice is committed to a patient-centered approach to healthcare, and I aim to cultivate a therapeutic partnership with my patients, guiding them towards healthier, more fulfilling lives.”

As a coalition dedicated to keeping healthcare local and maintaining quality-driven, patient-centered care across the North Country, North Star Health Alliance, alongside its members—Carthage Area Hospital, Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, North Country Orthopaedic Group, and Meadowbrook Terrace—continues to prioritize the health and well-being of the communities it serves.
